Function of air filter

Air filter refers to a device that removes particulate impurities in the air. When piston machinery (internal combustion engine, reciprocating compressor air filter, etc.) is working, if the inhaled air contains dust and other impurities, it will aggravate the wear of the parts, so an air filter must be installed. The air filter is composed of a filter element and a shell. The main requirements of air filtration are high filtration efficiency, low flow resistance, and continuous use for a long time without maintenance.

What are the advantages of an air filter?

The engine needs to suck in a lot of air during the working process. If the air is not filtered, the dust suspended in the air will be sucked into the cylinder, which will accelerate the wear of the piston group and the cylinder. Larger particles entering between the piston and the cylinder can cause serious “pulling the cylinder”, which is especially serious in dry and sandy working environments. The air filter is installed in front of the carburetor or intake pipe to filter out dust and sand in the air, ensuring that sufficient and clean air enters the cylinder
According to the filtration principle, air filters can be divided into filter type, centrifugal type, oil bath type and composite type.
During maintenance, the paper filter element must not be cleaned in oil, otherwise the paper filter element will fail, and it is easy to cause a speeding accident. During maintenance, only the vibration method, the soft brush removal method (to brush along the wrinkle) or the compressed air blowback method can only be used to remove the dust and dirt attached to the surface of the paper filter element. For the coarse filter part, the dust in the dust collecting part, the blades and the cyclone pipe should be removed in time. Even if it can be carefully maintained every time, the paper filter element cannot fully restore its original performance, and its air intake resistance will increase. Therefore, generally, when the paper filter element needs to be maintained for the fourth time, it should be replaced with a new filter element. If the paper filter element is cracked, perforated, or the filter paper and end cap are degummed, they should be replaced immediately.

How to maintain the diesel engine air filter？

The engine generally needs 14kg/air for every 1kg/diesel combustion. If the dust entering the air is not filtered out, the wear of the cylinder, piston and piston ring will be greatly increased. According to the test, if the air filter is not used, the wear rate of the above-mentioned parts will be increased by 3-9 times. When the pipe or filter element of the diesel engine air filter is blocked by dust, it will lead to insufficient intake air, which will cause the diesel engine to make a dull noise when accelerating, run weakly, increase the water temperature, and the exhaust gas becomes gray and black. Improper installation, the air containing a lot of dust will not pass through the filter surface of the filter element, but will directly enter the engine cylinder from the bypass. In order to avoid the above phenomena, daily maintenance must be strengthened.

Method/step:
1. Always remove the dust accumulated in the dust bag of the coarse filter, the blades and the cyclone pipe;
2. When maintaining the paper filter element of the air filter, the dust can be removed by gently vibrating, and the dust can be removed with a soft brush along the direction of the folds. Finally, the compressed air with a pressure of 0.2~0.29Mpa is used to blow from the inside to the outside;
3. The paper filter element should not be cleaned in oil, and it is strictly forbidden to contact with water and fire;
The filter element should be replaced immediately in the following situations: (1) The diesel engine reaches the specified operating hours; (2) The inner and outer surfaces of the paper filter element are gray-black, which have been aged and deteriorated or have been infiltrated by water and oil, and the filtration performance has deteriorated; (3) The paper filter element is cracked, perforated, or the end cap is degummed.
