The generation and harm of impurities in hydraulic filter

As we all know, the function of hydraulic filter is to filter impurities. So, how are these impurities produced? Also, what harm will it cause if it is not filtered in time? Let’s take a look at it together:

Hydraulic filters are generally composed of a filter element (or filter screen) and a housing. The oil flow area consists of many small gaps or holes in the filter element. Therefore, when impurities mixed into the oil are larger in size than these small gaps or pores, they can become blocked and filtered out of the oil. Because different hydraulic systems have different requirements, it is impossible to completely filter impurities mixed into the oil.

The generation of impurities in the hydraulic filter:

  1. Mechanical impurities remaining in the hydraulic system after cleaning, such as rust, casting sand, welding slag, iron filings, paint, paint, cotton yarn scraps, etc., and impurities entering the outside of the hydraulic system, such as dust, dust rings, etc. Natural gas etc.

  2. Impurities produced during the working process, such as debris formed by the hydraulic action of seals, metal powder produced by relative motion wear, colloid, asphaltene and carbon residue produced by oil oxidation modification.

Hazards of impurities in hydraulic filters:

When impurities are mixed into the hydraulic oil, with the circulation of the hydraulic oil, the impurities will be destroyed everywhere, which will seriously affect the normal operation of the hydraulic system. Slotting; destroys the oil film between the relatively moving parts, scratches the surface of the gap, increases the larger internal leakage, reduces the efficiency, increases the heating, intensifies the chemical action of the oil, and deteriorates the oil.

According to production statistics, more than 75% of the failures in the hydraulic system are caused by impurities in the hydraulic oil. Therefore, keeping the oil clean and preventing the contamination of the oil is very important for the hydraulic system.
