What is a hydraulic filter element?

A hydraulic filter element is a filtration product that is placed into the housing of the equipment to reduce contamination in the fluid to a desired value, and then maintain and stabilize that level throughout the operating time of the system.

At the heart of the filter is the filter element that performs the actual filtering and/or dewatering function in the housing. The filter element consists of several pleated filter and support layers, which are placed as cylinders around or inside a stabilizing support tube. These mesh packs are sealed by end caps. Depending on the type of filter, the flow through the filter element is from outside to inside or from inside to outside. Depending on the filter material, the filter screen pack is wrapped in an additional outer plastic wrap.
